The design provided the opportunity for this project to serve as a catalyst to advance building technology and the materials industry within Pakistan. By deploying traditional techniques of passive climate control – terra cotta brise soleil, sloped roofs with wind scoops, courtyard design, use of water, and wall mass – dependence upon air conditioning was reduced in a region where electrical service is not dependable.
The building is comprised of operating theatres, hospital rooms, laboratories, teaching rooms, intensive care units and maternity department.
